Burton ARC launches two new awards. The IPSA Award and the NFA award - 21st December 2008


IPSA Award

We talked about an award for IPSA, International Pumping Stations on the Air last year and this years event with have an award for anyone to claim. The award is free in 2008 if ordered via email and will be sent back to the claimant as a PDF file. (The award can be sent by post but there will be a charge made for printing and postage). Anyone can claim the award after they submit the details of 5 contacts to 5 separate pumping stations during the event. Its also open to SWL listerners. Details of the IPSA Award - link


NFA Award

The NFA, National Forest Award is an all year round award available to all licensed Amateur Radio Operators or Short Wave Listeners. To fulfill the requirement you need to get 100 points or more. Points are made by contact or hearing the club call sign, special club call signs or members call signs. The award is free if ordered via email and will be sent back to the claimant as a PDF file.

For example: 2 x Special Event Club Call Signs, 1 x G3NFC Call Sign, 4 x Club Contest Call Signs and 5 Club Members and you qualify for the award.

2008 Burton ARC Special Events. What a line up! - 21st December 2008

Steve, 2E0KPO has been busy sorting out the 2008 special event calendar and has lined up the usual's and some new stuff as well.

Sudbury Hall, Museum of Childhood has agreed to allow us to display our station during the International Museums Weekend, 14 & 15th June 2008. They have given us a fantastic location which has free access to club members and visitors We will be near to the gift shops and cafe. The event looks to be a very busy one, they have just been through a £2.2 million re-development programme and just before we attend they will have had the grand opening and they expect it to be busy. We will be able to operate both VHF and HF during the weekend. Special Event Call Sign TBC

Barton Gate Steam and Vintage Charity Rally is held on the weekend of the 19th and 20th July 2008 and we have been invited again. Last year was a wash out and had to be canceled. Fingers crossed for this year. They expect a busy event. We will be in a marquee for the event. Camping is available if we want. We will be able to operate both VHF and HF during the weekend. We hold the '2nd International Pumping Stations on the Air' event this year on the 24th and 25th Aug 2008 . So far we have one entry other than ourselves. Several other groups are expected to get involved again this year. Last years event was a success. This year We should be situated in a less noisy position. We will be able to operate both VHF and HF during the weekend. Special Event Call Sign GB0CPS

We may get involved with the Claymills Pumping Engines Trust. 15th Anniversary on the 25th & 26th October2008 , Steve is just waiting for an answer. We will be able to operate both VHF and HF during the weekend. Special Event Call Sign GB0CPS

Jamboree on the Air - JOTA is being held again this year on the 18th & 19th October 2008, details are limited as yet for this event. Special Event Call Sign GB0SJS

Burton ARC welcomes its first International Member - 19th December 2007

Giorgio Romanin, (SWL IV3 - 57306) is our first International Member and all at the Burton ARC welcome him as our latest member.

2E0KPO, Steve hits 250 points in SOTA Activations - 12th December 2007

Steve hit 250 SOTA activation points last weekend. So far Steve has climbed 94 summits, 78 of them being unique summits to him and he is ranked 33 out of 259 registered activators.
