2E0NBR, Sharon, 500 SOTA points and counting - 5th August 2007

Sharon, 2E0NBR hit the 500 point barrier for SOTA chasing on the 5th August 2007 with her contact to M3SFN/P, Geoff on G/WB-005, Long Mynd (Pole Bank)

Sharon has spoken 86 unique summits and her 500 point position was 78th, now she just has to get another 500 points to so she can claim her 'Shack Sloth' award

The Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) is an annual event in which about 500,000 Scouts and Guides all over the world make contacts with each other by means of amateur radio.

This year's JOTA
is 50 years of JOTA we have the call of GB50SJS to use this year.

AGM NEWS - 27th July 2007

The AGM went well with a good turn out. The main news.

Dave G0AOD, Alex, G3UUW, Steve, 2E0KPO and Mick,, G4HBY we voted in for another year along with Roger, M1CBO being voted in for his first year as the Deputy Treasurer.

It was suggested and voted in that a membership fee apply to help the club with the yearly costs it incurs.

SOTA - 2E0KPO, Steve makes 'Shack Sloth' - 22nd July 2007

2E0KPO, Steve has gained the 'Shack Sloth' award from SOTA and this makes Steve the 57th person in England to get this award. Steve chased 319 summits some as far away as Germany to get to the magical 1000 points.

Achieving "Shack Sloth" status requires considerable dedication and effort and to celebrate Steve will receive hand made glass "Ice block" made in the Scottish Highlands. Each trophy is unique.

IPSA, Leawood Pumphouse near Cromford, Derbyshire needs radio operators - 14th June 2007

UPDATE - Position filled - Our thanks to South Normanton, Alfreton and District Amateur Radio Club.

We have had a request from John Reeve of Leawood Pumphouse near Cromford, Derbyshire, he would like to get involved in IPSA and needs a local radio group to get involved. We have mailed the RSGB regional manager and a couple of radio clubs. However if you know someone that would like to activate Leawood Pumphouse on the International Pumping Stations day please do get in touch with Steve, 2E0KPO for more details.

QSL Cards have arrived - 14th June 2007

The New QSL cards have now arrived, we have 1000 of then to use. Mick, G4HBY has them in his possession and has quite a bit of catching up to do over the next few weeks. If you need to send out a QSL card on behalf of the club please ask Mick for some.

We had the cards produced by UX5UO Print and he did a great job, we can highly recommend them if you are looking to get QSL cards produced. He was full of advice on how best to produce them and provided a very good service.

G0AOD continues to be a winner! - 13th May 2007

Yet another 1st place for Dave in the 144/432Mhz 3rd March 2007 Contest.

G0AOD won the single operator sections in the 144 and 432Mhz sections and gained 1st overall. Equipment used Kenwood TS-2000 144Mhz - 100 watt 9 element and Kenwood TS-2000 432Mhz - 50 watt 21 element.

We are in the news, The RSGB News! - 10th May 2007

We now have some publicity for International Pumping Stations on the Air (IPSA) and International Museums on the Air (IMA) and this accounts for the sudden rise in hits per day on the site. We are hoping for a mention in Radcom and PW in Junes editions as well.

IPSA is steaming up! - 10th May 2007

International Pumping Stations on the Air (IPSA) is steaming up for a success. We now have three confirmed special event stations getting involved and several more expressing an interest.

Special event stations so far are Brede Steam Amateur Radio Society (BSARS), activating Brede Pumping Station, Mansfield Amateur Radio Society, activating Papplewick Pumping Station and Burton ARC, activating Claymills Pumping Station.

GB4FOL Special Event, Festival of Leisure - 10th May 2007

The next Festival of Leisure will be held on 23rd & 24th June 2007 at Maurice Lea Memorial Park, Church Gresley. A two day event of entertainment, sports and lots more.

South Derbyshire and Ashby Woulds will be attending the Festival of Leisure again.

Last year gave us some great weather and a two great days of events.

They are looking for volunteers to help in setting up and operating on the two day event.
